"Amazing", "Spectacular", "Friendly Neighborhood" - Call him what you will, Spider-Man has long been a flagship Marvel Comics character...and unless some criminal was impersonating him, pretty much his own thing. In more recent years, however, a LOT of new characters have vied to become, in the words of David Pumpkins' beat-boy skeletons, "part of it!"
This week's installment of "Family Reunions" sees Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston diving headlong into the Spider-Verse with a look at Spider-Man family members from the old classics like Aunt May and Mary Jane Parker to the myriad Spider-Men and Spider-Women that have become fairly prevailent over the last few years.

In 1977 a little science fiction film called "Star Wars" changed everything, becoming not only a box-office smash but an international cultural phenomenon that prevails to this day.
But before that fateful summer, what was going on in America. What were things like even just a year before there was a Star Wars?
Cole Houston and Eddie Medina explore the Bicentenial year of the United States with a look at popular culture of the day back when George Lucas and company were about to begin principle photography on the little movie that could. From movies and music to toys and even, enexpectedly, fast food, everything that was in '76 would seemingly change the following year. Hey Kids, Comics! #282 - Family Reunions: First Family Ties
Friday Aug 24, 2018
Friday Aug 24, 2018
They were Marvel's First "Family of Super-Heroes", even though only two were technically related when they go their start! But isn't that the point of this story arc? To explore how family does not always come from birth or marraige.
The Fantastic Four and all who have joined them in battle or in support, is the focus of this, the second chapter of "Family Reunions". Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny may be the iconic quartet, but the likes of Crystal, Sandman, She-Hulk, and even (yes, believe it or not) Ghost Rider have been a part of the team, and in most cases, the family as well.
Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston discover how diverse a family the FF has become over a great many decades from Alisha Masters to a future herald of Galactus, your hosts discover that this is some kind of family!

Hey Kids, Comics! #281 - Family Reunions: Off the Bat
Friday Aug 17, 2018

Families.
The ones you are born into you can't pick in advance. To a large degree the same holds true for the ones you marry into, by and large. But then there is the family you choose. A term generally reserved for friends, but sometimes it encompasses colleagues, allies, cohorts, and other supporters who become as close as flesh and blood.
In this new arc, Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston spotlight five super-hero "families" that are prevalent in comics and have considerable history. As this exploration begins the focus is on the so-called Batman Family. Perhaps the most dysfunctional and, at once, high-functioning of these four-color families, those that Batman allows to into his inner circle are a fiercely loyal and tough as nails bunch. Discover the curious nature of Gotham's first family as "Family Reunions" takes off like a bat out of...well, DC Comics!

Hey Kids, Comics! #275 - I Don't Know Much About Archie, But I Know What I Like
Tuesday Jul 10, 2018
Tuesday Jul 10, 2018
After last week's weighty topic, your hosts Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston are taking things a bit lighter...and simultaneously heavy! The remarkable re-imagining of the world of Archie Comics for live action television 78 years later was an ideal subject for the 175th issue of the show. Enjoy a lively glimpse into a comic icon and the curiously adult-oriented production that departs heavily from the source material as HKC! delves into yet another topic largely unfamiliar to your hosts!
