In the annals of bad ideas, Marvel Comics brings a big one to the fore with Steve Rogers: Captain America!  Positing that Rogers was, from childhood, a hand picked agent of Hydra hit the comic world like a piano dropped from a tenth story building.  Largely dismissed as a publicity stunt it did lead to a fanboy exodus from the House of Ideas and crushed the spirits of many a long-time Cap fan.
