Wednesday Jul 17, 2013
Everyone has a favorite when it comes to comics. But narrowing down the favorites to a single title, story arc, or issue can be a bit of a challenge when asked to describe “The Best Comic I Ever Read”. But such was the challenge presented to a variety of fellow podcasters as well as artists and other friends of the show. But then could there be a better way to celebrate a year of Hey Kids, Comics! than to produce our first Annual with such a compelling topic as the focus? We think not!
In this “double-sized” special edition, Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston open the show up to a variety of guests to discover what comic resonates with them to this day.

Tuesday Jul 02, 2013

One year ago (or close enough to not matter that much one way or the other) a brand new podcast appeared on Podbean that was the brainchild of one Andrew Farmer of Amazing Comicast and The United States of Geekdom. Joined by The JediCole Universe’s own Cole Houston, the show was launched with an introductory issue, #0, and an ambitious weekly schedule. And so it is that we are now proud to present a dual milestone, the first anniversary and the fiftieth issue of Hey Kids, Comics!
After a full year the show is still going strong, delivering engaging individual issues and five-issue story arcs for your entertainment and enlightenment. Join Andy and Cole for a special anniversary issue full of memories and plans for the future of the show.

Man of Steel is super, man!
That seems to be the consensus over at “Hey Kids, Comics!” anyway. There was no way Andrew and Cole could miss out on the opportunity to share their thoughts on the blockbuster re-imagining of Superman. And Mrs. JediCole joins the discussion as Zach Snyder’s cinematic epic becomes the focus of thoughtful exploration and lively discussion.

Put me in coach!
What happens when you mix the classic “Who Will be the Newest Avenger?” with choosing sides for schoolyard sports? You get the latest issue of Hey Kids, Comics! of course! Andrew and Cole take fantasy sports to a new level when they are joined by Eddie Medina for a look and what super-heroes would be the ideal choices for friendly games of basketball, football, and baseball.
Will your favorite heroes make the cut? Will this be “no powers” rules or an all-in battle for control of the diamond, court, and gridiron? There really is not telling where “The Boys of Comics” will take this away game, so just tune in your transistor radio for the play-by-play!

Hey Kids, Comics! #47 - Summer Fun Special
Monday Jun 10, 2013
Monday Jun 10, 2013
Its summer time! Well, close enough to the mark. Though the season does not begin for two more days, Andy and Cole simply can’t wait! And with that in mind they take a vacation from the standard HKC! format and take on a long-standing tradition in comics, the “Summer Fun Special”!
Show favorite and JediCole Universe contributor Bobby Blakey joins the fun, shanghaied into this issue, much to his surprise, by Cole with the lure of recording an entirely different type of show. Along with Andrew the hijinks and shenanigans run rampant with the underlying theme of humor in comics and those times when a series was allowed to just “let its hair down” for an issue or two. So get ready to jump into summer the Hey Kids, Comics! way. No sunscreen necessary.

Hey Kids, Comics! #46 - HCK! Team-Up #1: Justice League
Wednesday Jun 05, 2013
Wednesday Jun 05, 2013
What happens when a variety of super-heroes, each legends in their own right, are thrown together for the common purpose of defeating an implacable foe? Well, when the menace is a despotic intergalactic starfish and the heroes are Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Martian Manhunter it was the start of something big! And that something was nothing less than the Justice League of America!
The particulars of the of comics’ oldest team are not discussed in any great detail so worry not, this was no spoiler! Instead, in their free-wheeling style, Andrew and Cole introduce a new recurring feature to Hey Kids, Comics! - HKC! Team-Up. The feature will showcase discussions of various super-hero teams on comics, focusing on one team at a time. With about an hour to work with, the discussions will be more of the lively, all-over-the-map variety than a comprehensive overview of the history of the group and any spin-off titles that may have resulted from their longevity. So to kick things off Andy and Cole give you their take on the storied world of the Justice League!
Apologies to the Great Lakes Avengers.

Hey Kids, Comics! #44 - The Hero's Journey
Friday May 24, 2013
Friday May 24, 2013
Andrew and Cole embark on a very special journey in this issue of Hey Kids, Comics!, one that will take them along a path trod by the heroes of Antiquity. That may be a bit overly dramatic, but at once it suits the theme. Your heroic hosts are joined by the amazingly insightful Kelly Long who brings her own unique perspective to the characterization and history of DC Comics' resident Amazon, Wonder Woman. From her pseudo-Classical origins to interpretations of that background by various creators over the years, everyone's favorite Invisible Jet-flying heroine provides an example of the age-old trial-filled path taken by the heroes of myth as such a journey relates to comics today.

Hey Kids, Comics #43 - Heroes Come Home: Live Action
Wednesday May 15, 2013
Wednesday May 15, 2013
Andrew Farmer is BACK! Welcome to the latest “Hey Kids, Comics!” and the second half of “Heroes Come Home”. It is a rather appropriate title since this show’s creator and host is back to join Cole for the first time in five weeks! The greatly refreshed master of these ceremonies hops back in the saddle and leads an exploration into live action super-heroes on television!
Comic book heroes have had a long and often awkward television history when adapted to the small screen and the limitations of real-world costuming and a less than stellar production budget. “Batman” was a trailblazer that, while high camp and melodrama, helped open the airwaves to the likes of “The Incredible Hulk”, “The Tick”, and even original works like “Heroes”. Find out about all kinds of super-hero television programs from the best and worst of the long history of comics invading live action TV!
