Truly when is it simply too much to pander to controversy and the provocative solely to punch up sales for a comic book title for a month or two? From the days when a controversial issue of a comic was something special to the modern media-interest-generating approach to making a hero gay or otherwise eyebrow-raising, the unusual history of this aspect of comics is explored. Join Andrew and Cole as they question the editorial decisions that are too often driven more by marketing than creativity. Is pandering really good storytelling or just potentially good for business, albeit temporarilly. "Comics, Commerce, and the All-Mighty Buck" comes to its inevitable conclusion in this very special issue of Hey Kids, Comics!

How often over the last 20 years or so have we heard that the days of the print comic are numbered. The digital age has emerged and a paperless world undreamed of even by the Jetsons has been ushered in at last. Farewell paper, we knew the well. Or is it that simple?Despite long years of certainty, the imminent demise of comics remains ever illusive. While to some degree the digital delivery of the medium has begun, it has not supplanted the print comic in the way that the electric light devastated the whale oil industry. Are comics simply teetering on the brink or will they always have a place in this world of ones and zeros?Join Andrew Farmer and Cole Houston as they discuss the future and the seeming death-defying nature of print media comics in the penultimate episode of "Comics, Commerce, and the All-Mighty Buck"!
